Tidwell, who was named president of Wachovia's Georgia banking operations, will relocate to Atlanta at the end of the month to take on
his new duties. Tidwell is currently the bank's Southern Region executive for North Carolina. During his tenure in that position, Tidwell responded to Charlotte's expanding banking needs by
establishing a winning attitude among the North Carolina staff."You have to be a little bit of rah-rah to get people fired up," he said.
In Georgia, Tidwell will manage Wachoivia's day-to-day banking
operations. He replaces D. Gary Thompson, the former chief executive for Florida and Georgia banking.
"Isaiah Tidwell is a highly skilled and experienced banker who has achieved great success for
Wachovia in the competitive Charlotte market," Thompson said. "Having him available to lead Georgia banking activities will allow me to focus on the broader, strategic issues associated with a
two-state territory."
Tidwell's promotion means more responsibility and opportunity, but he'll miss Charlotte.
"Charlotte is unique," he said. "Charlotte has the capacity to fix anything that is wrong in the community...there is a lot of volunteerism here and a tremendous religious community."
Tidwell knows about volunteering in Charlotte's professional and social circles.
An active member of the civic community, Tidwell serves on the board of visitors at UNC Charlotte
and Johnson C. Smith University and Davidson College's board of trustees. He's also chairman-elect of Carolinas Partnership and a director of Foundation of the Carolinas. He's also a deacon board
member and finance committee chairman at First Baptist Church-West.
