eCe Winans has spent a lifetime singing the Lord's praises. Winans, one of gospel's top music acts, will
perform Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at Belk Theater. Also appearing is the Johnson C. Smith University Concert Choir under the direction of Bruce A. Thompson.Winans' early career was spent with brother Benjamin (BeBe),
including two years on Jim and Tammy Bakker's "PTL Club" starting in 1984. The pair had their first hit outside the gospel world with "I.O.U. Me" in 1987, followed by "I'll Take You
There," "Heaven" and "Lost without You."
While riding high on the urban gospel wave, the siblings decided to explore different solo musical projects in 1995. Since then, CeCe has recorded
four albums, hosted a season of the variety show "CeCe's Place" and penned an inspirational memoir titled "On a Positive Note" for Simon and Schuster's Pocket Book division. But
throughout her projects on the small screen and as an author, she never forgot her gospel roots.
Winans recently recorded her latest effort "Alabaster Box," which relates to the biblical story
of women who broke an alabaster box to pour oil on Jesus' feet as an act of reverence. The album, to be released Oct. 19, is the first release from Winans' newly-created label, Wellspring Gospel.
"There's power in worship and in getting people to really forget about themselves and worship God to the best of their abilities, from the bottom of their hearts," Winans said.
"Alabaster Box will hopefully encourage people to praise and worship God the way he deserves to be praised."
