he Double Door Charlotte's Home of the Blues looks like a cozy house that could go unnoticed to drivers riding by on Independence Boulevard.
The soul stirring Deborah Coleman performed at there last Saturday before a standing room crowd. Coleman's high energy performance had the audience clapping, dancing and begging for more.
She sang songs like "When Love Moves Me" and "Feeling Alright."
And the crowd was definitely feeling alright as Coleman sang and strummed her guitar. The set included songs like
"The Dream" off her new CD, Where Blues Begin.
"It's been more than a year since I have been back in Charlotte," Coleman said.
She thinks a lot of the Queen City.
"Charlotte is the best place to perform in North Carolina," Coleman said.
Coleman is more than a blues singer. She plays her guitar so well that she can make her
guitar literally sing. The performance became more intense as the night wore on. Coleman became seemed to get lost herself in her performance. And when a guitar string broke, the
audience waited patiently as she replaced it.
Noah Bager says that this isn't the first time he has seen Coleman perform. "She's great.
And so is the Double Door," Bager said. "I will definitely come out to see her perform again, the next time she's in town."
This was the Nisa Little's first time at the Double Door.
"I ended up at the Double Door by pure accident," she said. "I was very impressed by Deborah. I had never saw her perform before. She is excellent. I need to buy her CD."
After Coleman and her band exited the stage the crowd kept clapping and begging for more until the combo returned to the stage and played another number.
The smiles lighting up the dimly lit room was proof the audience loved the show.
