Opening reception: "Blacks in Gold" exhibit. Afro-American Cultural Center. 6-8 p.m. Historical items and information on the involvement of African Americans in the mining of gold in North Carolina. In conjunction with the Reed Gold Mine, in Cabarrus County. Exhibit runs thru Oct. 22.

Premiere Performances, N.C. Dance Theater. "Magnificat," by Salvatore Aiello and "World Premieres," Alonzo King and Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux. 8 p.m. Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. 372-0101.

Gold Fever Festival. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Afro-American Cultural Center, Discovery Place, Museum of New South, Public Library and Reed Gold Mine. Includes multi-site scavenger hunt. Events at the four downtown sites.

First Ward residents reunion. For residents of First Ward before 1963. Hornet's Nest Park, Shelter No. 1, Beatties Ford Road, 2-8 p.m. $15 adults and $7 for children under 12.
